These Boots Are Made for Walking

In lieu of my recent trip to Texas, I’m going to tell you a little bit about an up-and-coming stylish leather boot company and what they are doing to promote their business. Uxibal (pronounced ōoshēbal ), is based out of Guatemala and is still in their first year of business. If you take a look at their website http://www.uxibal.com/, you will find an upbeat and colorful homepage filled with pictures and a ‘lookbook’ demonstrating different ways to wear their various products.

Uxibal sells accessories along with their boots, but the emphasis is on their authentic handmade boots. They sell two styles: The Comalapa Tall Boot and The Raya Short boot. The focus of their marketing strategy is mainly online with social media tools and a small outreach in the Guatemalan community. Uxibal utilizes Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram to market their products and give examples of how to wear their product. Overall their marketing efforts are still premature and they have not seen a huge presence on their website to drive sales. In the next couple of weeks an Ad Words campaign will be set up and hopefully their marketing efforts will prove successful and we will indeed find the answer to the question, are these boots really made for walking?

  1. Since this company is based in Guatemala, do they focus their marketing efforts more in South America, or in North America and places like the US? Based on the style of the boots, I think they would be very succesful in the Southwest region (you already mentioned Texas)!

  2. Well Samantha, currently their efforts are online based for mainly the US. However, they do have more of a word-of-mouth campaign in Guatemala. The company is in the process of finding partnerships with local boutiques in the Seattle and San Fran areas. Because it is such a new company they are still testing the waters in their demographics and are still seeing where they would be most successful.
